The Rietveld Schröder House is not fully accessible for people with a disability. Here you can find all the information you need to prepare for your visit.

Unfortunately, The Rietveld Schröder House is not fully accessible for people with a disability. On account of the building’s international heritage status, it cannot be altered physically to improve accessibility. We are continuously investigating other means of making the Rietveld Schröder House more accessible to all.

Accessibility of the building

Both the ticket office and the Rietveld Schröder House have thresholds. The upper floor of the Rietveld Schröder House can only be accessed by stairs.
The stairway in the Rietveld Schröder House consists of fairly high steps. This stairway consists of ten steps in total, of which the top steps are 20cm high. Visitors who experience trouble walking or climbing stairs can be assisted by museum staff, if necessary. However, it means that both the ticket office and the Rietveld Schröder House are not or limitedly accessible for people using wheelchairs, scooters or rollators.

Parking spaces for disabled people

There is a parking space reserved for people with a disability at the Gerrit Rietveldhof 55 nearby. Holders of a European parking card for persons with a disability can park there free of charge. The parking place is located approximately 80 metres from the Rietveld Schröder House. There is usually sufficient room to park in the street in front of the house and there is room for dropping off passengers.

Free admission for companions

Visitors who find it difficult to visit the Rietveld Schröder House on their own can bring a companion. This companion is entitled to free admission. Given the limited capacity of the Rietveld Schröder House, we do recommend that you reserve a ticket in advance. The companion’s ticket can only be obtained at the House’s ticket office, however. You can report there with your companion. Your companion has guaranteed access, regardless of capacity.

Accessible toilets

Neither the ticket office nor the Rietveld Schröder House has wheelchair accessible toilets.

Portable stools

Collapsible light-weight stools are available for visitors who prefer not to stand all the time.

Assistance dogs

The Rietveld Schröder House is accessible for visitors with an assistance dog, provided the dog is on a leash.

Blind and visually impaired visitors

The media guide (accessible on your smartphone) is suited to screen readers.

Deaf and hearing-impaired visitors

Audio fragments in the media guide are also offered as written text. At present the texts are only accessible via the mobile version of the tour on your own device, so not via the devices offered for use by the Rietveld Schröder House. Please bring your own smartphone if you wish to use this version of the media guide.
